Hymenal Reconstruction

What is the hymen?

The hymenal ring sits just inside the entrance to the vagina. There is great variation in the shape of the hymen and position of its opening. The hymenal ring can be broken or divided by the use of internal sanitary protection, trauma and sexual intercourse. For many reasons you may wish for the hymen to be reconstructed back to its original pre-intercourse or sexual activity state.

What is hymenal reconstruction?

Hymenal reconstruction involves the removal of the divided edges and the gap in the ring closed with a stitch that dissolves within 7 – 10 days. The procedure can be undertaken as a day case, not involving an overnight stay. There is minimal bleeding and pain post-operatively and the area should have completely healed within 3 weeks. It would be possible to have sexual intercourse after this time although it may be slightly painful. You will also have slight bleeding the first time. Due to the sensitive nature of the procedure discretion will be maintained at all times.

How much will it cost?

The cost of the consultation is £150. There is no obligation to undergo surgery following your consultation. The price you will be given will be a “fixed cost” that includes the operation, surgeon, and anaesthetist and hospital costs including drugs and your 6-week follow-up consultation.
