"Specialist Surgery can not only make you feel better
but can also boost your self esteem"

Labioplasty & labial reduction

Every woman is constructed slightly differently and therefore it is not uncommon for the labia to be uneven in size. The labia are the lips of tissue around the vagina. If they are asymmetrical or enlarged then they can catch on clothes, become inflamed or cause irritation. Sometimes they can become caught during intercourse and cause embarrassment. Women with exceptionally long or unequal lengths of the labia minora can have then aesthetically reduced.

What does the surgery involve?

The procedure is usually performed under anaesthetic. The surgeon will trim the inner folds so they no longer protrude either by excising excess tissue or cutting a V shape. The remaining edges are sewn together with a suture material that dissolves within 7 10 days.

How long does the surgery take?

The surgery takes about 30 45 minutes to perform and the patient can usually go home the same day.

What will happen in the recovery phase?

You will be a little sore and possibly swollen after the surgery but this discomfort usually settles within 10 - 14 days. You will be able to walk the day of surgery and can return to work within 2 3 weeks. You will need to wear a pant liner until the healing is complete. A daily bath or shower helps prevent infection and promote healing. You can return to sexual activity around six weeks following a satisfactory follow-up consultation.

What is the recovery time?

Recovery is quite quick and you will have resumed most of our normal activities 2-3 weeks after surgery.

What can I expect from the surgery?

Your expectations have to be realistic. The surgery will restore the labia to a more normal appearance. In most cases the surgery is virtually undetectable and many patients are very pleased with the result.
